Our pieces are bigger and stronger then standard knobs and they are finished with buffers and polishing wheels to a great shine. I use only the highest quality available internal nuts and fittings for all my pieces.
If there's one thing that I've learned, it's that all resins are not created equal. After a lengthy trial and error process of testing countless resins, I now use only high quality UV stabilised hardened resin. This is because it offers an extremely durable finish that will last for many years. Please see UV stabilisation section below in regards to longevity of colours.
Whether it is a natural specimen, hand painted inclusion, or a one of kind ink pattern, each piece is individually created. It is then placed into a pressure chamber for the first time and cured at 60 psi before the next layer of resin is applied.
The final layer includes a threaded alloy cylinder, embedded to form a strong, single piece bond, finished with a stylish stainless steel reinforcement plate. This creates a solid, reliable piece, that will last many years. All left over materials and every drop of un-used resin is used in the creation of other projects, so no resin waste ends up in land fill.
While all our clear resin is UV stabilised, this does not mean it is UV proof. Ultimately, all resins will show signs of UV degradation over time. Even though we are continually working to improve the long term UV protection for all our products, nature will prevail and exposure to the sun will cause some discolouration to the clear resin over time. In regard to the coloured inks and other inclusions that may be embedded inside our gear knobs (for example plastic figurines or vinyl decals) , we can not guarantee the longevity of the these ink colours. What we recommend is, if your car is regularly exposed to direct sunlight to use the cover/bag provided free with your kymcast gear knob as extra sun protection when not in use.
